These are my favorite articles that I often cite for clients why we use positive
techniques in dog training.

PDFDr. David Mech is the premier wolf researcher. In his article "Whatever Happened to the Term Alpha Wolf” he describes how being alpha in wolves relates to dominance and pack structure. This article gives you food for thought why using Dominance Techniques are not useful.

PDFThe American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB) Position Statement on Punishment and Dominance discusses the use of punishment and dominance in working with dogs.

PDFAVSAB also has a Position Statement on Puppy Socialization. Puppies should begin socialization and training at an early age. Studies show that puppies that begin socializing and training at a very early age are more well behaved. A well behaved dog is more likely to stay in the home.
